*Artist Statement*
My work continues to interpret and question the boundaries of abstraction, exploring the definition of what makes an abstract painting or sculpture formally and experientially successful. Through the arrangement of both paintings and sculpture within a particular space, I wish to create a staged aesthetic experience in which the viewer is invited to take moment to reflect on the impact of a purely visual experience. To not just look but to really see a work. To experience the works through space, juxtaposition, color, light, form and their tactile qualities within their given surroundings.
In a time when people are bombarded daily with a fast-paced-assault of images, whether through billboards, advertisements, television, or the internet, my work looks to counter this flood of imagery by inviting the viewer to slow down, to take a moment out of their busy, daily lives to relax and allow for a completely visual, aesthetic experience. It is my
intention that the work has a playful, yet relaxed and calming, meditative effect on the viewer. To harmoniously become part of its environment.
My work combines an array of painterly techniques, including sprayed, poured, splattered and stained paint on a variety of surfaces and supports. Using an assortment of durable materials such as wood, resin, fiberglass, aluminum, and paints, such as new water-based auto paints that offer an amazing array of colors and effects while maintaining a lesser impact on the environment. Video, lights and ambient audio have
also been incorporated into a number of installations, all dependent on the space and the desired impact upon the audience.
